De toespraak is eigenlijk een fast-forward versie van de beroemde St Crispin’s Day toespraak die Henry the 5th in het toneelstuk van Shakespeare houdt om zijn troepen te inspireren.

Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.

This day is call’d the feast of Crispian.

Shakespeare was tevens de blauwdruk voor een fragment uit de film Independence Day, waarin de president de troepen uit de hele wereld oproept alles te geven in de allesbeslissende strijd tegen de aliens (iedereen zal deze historische dag herinneren):

Filmtoespraken zijn fantastisch. Let ten eerste op de structuur. Als je de Saint Crispin Day tot op het bot analyseert, dan zie je daar de eerder op deze blog beschreven Monroes Motivated Sequence in terug.

Ten tweede is het mooi oefenmateriaal.

Leer een filmtoespraak uit je hoofd en draag hem voor op de Amsterdamse Brugman Club. Het hoeft niet altijd te gaan over een onderwerp uit je professionele omgeving dat je uitprobeert binnen ABC. Je kunt ook een keer inspiratie halen uit de film en daarmee oefenen om vervolgens met power en een goede structuur een inspirerende speech in je professionele omgeving te houden.
